Welcome to another ETalk, where we introduce an amazing person at Elevate K-12 involved in revolutionizing education through high-quality live online instruction inside schools!
Name: Victoria B.

What excites you most about teaching your particular subject?
I love helping students make a connection with the math concepts. I am excited to see their perception change when they realize they CAN do math.
What do you like most about live, online instruction?
Live online instruction makes the interaction more “real” for both instructor and students. I am able to see a lot of my students’ personalities come alive and it helps me to drive instruction when I am able to put their names with their faces. For my students, it gives them a sense of being “known” and seen. It really brings the instruction to “life” in this environment.
Elevate K-12 works with a lot of struggling students. What do you like most about working with those students?
I love working with students who are struggling and helping them to make connections. Many of them are very transparent, and this helps to drive the instruction so I am a better resource to them on their journey to success.
What do you like about working from home/remotely?
I enjoy the flexibility of working remotely, as it provides me opportunities to work from different locations, when needed.
Describe your best moment teaching live and online. Be specific!
One of my favorite moments teaching live and online was right after I assigned a quiz and the students did not perform well. The students were disappointed, I was also appalled, and began to gripe. I quickly identified the few students who excelled and appointed them “team captain” and began building teams. The students worked in groups as I watched the team captains explain how he/she worked through the concepts. I began to see the learning and transfer of knowledge take place before my eyes…and I wasn’t physically in the room! The students received an informal assessment, in which they responded privately and they did exceptional! I am very proud of this moment, as the students now naturally resort to “partnering” with their peers when they need assistance or can assist.
Tell us a little more about who you are–what do you like to do? What’s your favorite hobby? What’s something super surprising about you? Be creative!
I am a life-long learner. I have 4 children. I love spending time with family and friends, traveling, roller skating, fitness, and anything health related. I am vegan and love experimenting with vegan dishes and visiting new restaurants. I am also looking to get back into weightlifting and body building.
Thanks, Victoria B.!
