Describe what you do in one sentence.

I plan and advise on all things math for Elevate.

What excites you most about working at Elevate K-12?

As an educator, I truly believe that all students can learn. Elevate K-12 provides that opportunity to students who would otherwise not have it. Elevate K-12 looks past race, location, gender, and socioeconomic factors and delivers top-quality instruction to all students. I am excited to watch Elevate K-12 continue to grow and reach more students.

What’s a “normal” day like for you at Elevate K-12?

I work with people spread both around the country and the world, so I really try my best to be responsive and available to everyone in a timely manner, whether it is 6am or 9pm. I pull out my laptop and start working as soon as I get my kiddos off to school in the morning and work throughout the day. I am typically home all day, but if I am out, I can bring my laptop along with me and keep working. I spend most of my time working on various projects and collaborating with content writers, but I do get to meet with others working in the office a few times a week, which I always look forward to. When my kids get home, I take a break from work and help with homework and make dinner. To finish my day up, I head to bed and pull out my laptop one more time to get in a few more hours of work while everything is still and quiet.

What do you enjoy most about our culture?

I have never worked in such a positive environment. My input is respected and consulted. Everyone values what the other members of the team bring to the table; we discuss, collaborate, and agree on decisions and plans. There are so many moving pieces at Elevate K-12, but they all seem to work so well together. The people here are the best!

Elevate K-12’s mission is to bring high-quality instruction to all students, no matter their zip code. What do you like most about impacting students in this way?

There has been a big push in education to deliver quality instruction to schools in need, which often means a one-size-fits-all, and independent learning type of online delivery. I love that Elevate K-12 offers high-quality, live instruction to students in a classroom. Students get a personalized and quality classroom experience no matter where they live. They ask questions and get feedback in real time while collaborating with peers. Students aren’t doing “busy work”. They are learning and understanding. I love that through Elevate K-12, schools are able to offer ALL students the foundation for success.

Describe your best moment at Elevate K-12. Be specific!

This last spring, the content team started working on some new courses. I was put in charge of designing and ordering Algebra 1, which was our first course. It was a big project and I was anxious about putting together something that reflected the high-quality the team was expecting. It took me a few weeks, but I finished a plan that I was proud of. We now deliver that content to several schools. We have also used that course as a template for several additional courses.

Tell us a little more about who you are–what do you like to do?

I am a published author. I contributed an essay (The Field of Dreams) about my son’s service dog to the book, “Miracle Dogs: Rescue Stories” by photographer Liz Stavrinides. My contribution was the first story featured in the book. I was joined by many other authors, including Lance Bass, Hoda Kotb, and Chevy Chase. If I ever meet any of them, I suppose we will have something interesting to talk about!
